Intake of 182 neglected cats

UPDATE (9/12, 6pm): The first group of kitties starts going up for adoption tomorrow. Georgetown will have cats from this case available at 11am opening, West Chester and Dover by 1pm. New Castle will have some on Tuesday, and all campuses will have more added through the week. If you’ve been considering adopting, now’s the time to completely transform a cat’s life.

September 11, 2020 — Yesterday the BVSPCA took in 182 cats and 1 dog seized by the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare (OAW) in a suspected animal cruelty case in Camden, DE. One deceased cat was also recovered. OAW had received a tip from the public about cats living in deplorable conditions.

The animals are in our care for evaluation and any necessary medical care. OAW’s investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending. It’s believed this may be the largest single hoarding case seizure in the state’s history.

We’re proud to be part of this important work, and we need your help getting these cats the quality of life they deserve. You can help with a donation to support the significant cost of this intake, which includes boarding for some of the cats and medical care for 183 animals, or by adopting. We’ll especially need working cat placements for those who may be undersocialized.
