Our enriching and caring place for cats that cannot be adopted or live in outdoor colonies.
The Cat Retreat at our Animal Rescue Center (ARC) in Georgetown is a resource for cats that come to our shelters that may not be adoption candidates or may be harder to adopt. The most common example is under-socialized cats from hoarding cases that can’t be introduced into an outdoor colony because they’ve never lived outside.
The ARC Cat Retreat provides a cage-free, indoor/outdoor life full of enrichment and nurturing for 200+ cats. They have free ranging access to be inside or outside, with ample cat trees, gymnasiums, perches and hiding places.
Over time, some of these cats transition to be ready for adoption. Others will graduate to our working cat program at barns, greenhouses, or other facilities. And yet others will stay with us to live out a long and happy life at the retreat.
The space welcomes volunteers to help care for and socialize the cats. The public can also participate via webcam to see the cats enjoying their time there.

As one of the only remaining open access shelters in the region, we provide a respite for cats rescued from deplorable conditions. These cases usually require addressing both physical wounds and the deeper impacts such as socialization.
Open the door to endless possibilities. Together, we will create positive change within our community, help control the homeless animal population, and improve the lives of pets and their families.
