The BVSPCA pulled 16 German Shepherd Dogs yesterday from a property in Metter, GA. On Thursday, January 3, the Atlanta Humane Society’s Animal Cruelty Unit responded to a neglect case involving approximately 165 German Shepherd Dogs on the property. The dogs, ranging in age and health status, were found living in extremely neglectful conditions. The property owner faces cruelty charges.
Our friends at the Atlanta Humane Society reached out to us to assist, and yesterday our team traveled to the Candler County property and removed 16 dogs. The dogs arrived at our West Chester Campus early this morning. They have a busy day ahead, with medical exams, baths, and individual evaluations for the most appropriate next steps to assist in their recovery and placement with forever families.
“One look at the photos of the scene, and we knew right away we had to help,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA CEO. “Not only do we have experience with large intakes, our growing behavior program makes us uniquely qualified to assist in this case.”
These 16 dogs have known nothing but each other – no love, no affection, no family, not even suitable housing. Founded in 1929, the Brandywine Valley SPCA is the first open admission no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania and Delaware. In 2018, the BVSPCA cared for more than 14,000 stray, owner-surrendered, wayward owned, and abused and neglected animals while achieving a 95% live release rate.
