Coco can’t tell us how long she was left alone in an abandoned home, but she’s safe now and needs our help.
Animal Welfare Officers from Delaware Animal Services found Coco severely emaciated and weak in the abandoned home in the 100 block of President Drive in Capital Park, Dover. She was rushed for immediate medical evaluation that showed her condition was critical and that she would need extensive care and surgery.
Coco is now in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Copeland Center for Animal Welfare, in the care of our New Castle medical team, who say she came in horribly underweight with a body score of just 2 out of 9, and they weren't sure she would make it. While the regimen of antibiotics and treatment for a severe infection are improving, Coco still has surgery and a long road ahead.
“No animal should be found suffering like this. We want to spread the word that we and our partners will not stand for animal abuse of any kind,” said Adam Lamb, CEO of BVSPCA. If you have any information or leads that could help in Coco’s case, please call the Office of Animal Welfare at 302-255-4646. Tips can be made anonymously and the Brandywine Valley SPCA is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
We are committed to Coco's care and a brighter future for her as well as making sure no other animals suffer at the hands of those who left her behind.
