ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER

The Animal Rescue Center (ARC) opened in January 2019 to help animals needing extra support to reach adoption, such as cruelty survivors, disaster victims, newborns, and pets at risk of euthanasia in other shelters This state-of-the-art 11,500 square foot facility on 13 acres in Georgetown can house as many as 250 animals at a time and projects to save more than 2000 animals a year.

Examples of Lives Saved

Even before opening, the BVSPCA used the facility in the Fall of 2018 to save the lives of 500 animals. When Hurricanes Florence and Michael devastated parts of North Carolina and Florida, construction work was far enough along to house nearly 300 cats and dogs that were displaced by damage to their local shelters or needed to be relocated to make room for family pets lost in the storm. Then the BVSPCA took in more than 200 animals at risk of euthanasia in other shelters ahead of our Mega Adoption Event.

The ARC’s residents so far have included animals in need locally, nationally and internationally. The day of the grand opening celebration the BVSPCA took in 44 dogs from a home in Dover. At the same time, the center had several behavior program residents, including dogs rescued by Humane Society International (HSI) from a Korean dog meat farm and German Shepherds from a 165-dog cruelty case.

Eastern Shore Pet Resort

The BVSPCA secured and renovated this amazing facility thanks to generous donors. To help fund ongoing operations, the BVSPCA carved out about a third of the facility to become a luxury pet resort. Eastern Shore Pet Resort gives pampered pets a luxury getaway for daycare and boarding while supporting the important rescue work taking place at the ARC.

Daycare includes indoor and outdoor play grounds with tubes, tunnels, toys, and more. Private boarding can be tailored to your pet. Picture your pet meeting new friends in the play yards, taking a dip in the wading pool, or enjoying spa time with a bubble bath. Then the day wraps up with private in-suite tv, customizable treats, and one-on-one cuddle time.
