Spay and Neuter Cost Is Well Worth the Investment

spay and neuter costs

Choosing to spay or neuter your dog or cat is the responsible humane choice to make. If you are concerned about spay and neuter cost, you should know that the cost is typically affected by the weight of your pet. The more your pet weighs the higher the cost. The younger they are when they have the procedures the less costly it will be because they weigh less.

Spaying applies to females, while neutering applies to males. Both types of surgery are performed on the reproductive organs to ensure your pet cannot reproduce. These are very common surgeries where the risk is minimal.

The Cost of NOT Having Your Furry Friend Spayed or Neutered

When you spay or neuter your dog or cat you are helping to keep down the pet population. Millions of pets every year wind up in shelters where they are euthanized. Every pet owner should do their part to reduce the unwanted pet population.

Spay and neuter cost is far less costly than an unintended litter of puppies or kittens. Just the vet care alone for a pregnant dog or cat can be nearly triple the cost of spaying or neutering. Never mind the cost of shots and vet services for the puppies and kittens.

It Can Reduce Health Care Costs

Dealing with spay and neuter cost now can save you some money down the road when it comes to vet care. There are some health problems that these procedures can prevent including:

  • Testicular cancer
  • Some prostate problems
  • Reduction in urinary tract infections in females
  • Reducing breast cancer/ ovarian cancer risks in females
  • Helping to curb unwanted behaviors

Spaying or neutering your companion allows them to live a longer healthier life. Of course, less risk of illness means fewer visits to the animal hospital and less overall health care costs. You both benefit but cost savings and better health is not the only benefit.

Unwanted Behaviors

Roaming looking for a mate is dangerous behavior in both cats and dogs. Typically, it is the male of each species that will go off to find a mate. When you neuter your male, you put an end to that behavior and reduce the risk of being hit by a car or being injured by another animal (including the human type).

Another problem with male dogs is unwanted sexual attention directed at humans. A neutered male is less likely to mistake your house guest as a potential partner. Aggressive behaviors may also calm a bit after a male is neutered.

It is The Right Thing to Do

Your pet deserves every chance that you can provide for them to live a long healthy life. Spay and neuter cost is a small price to pay!
