Brandywine Valley SPCA Welcomes Rescue Flight of Texas Shelter Pets in Partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, Wings of Rescue and Austin Pets Alive!
National partnership helps create space for shelters responding to catastrophic flooding in Texas
 

NEW CASTLE, DE – [JULY 20, 2026] – Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) and Animal Adoption Center (AAC), in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, Austin Pets Alive!, and Wings of Rescue, is welcoming a rescue flight of dogs and cats from Texas as catastrophic flooding continues to impact communities across the state. 

On Monday, July 20, one of the first rescue flights carrying homeless shelter pets out of destruction to our area will arrive in Delaware. The flight will bring dogs and cats who were already in shelters and waiting for homes before the flooding, creating much-needed space so local shelters can focus on reuniting lost pets with their families, caring for displaced dogs and cats, supporting impacted pet owners, and recovering from the disaster. 

“Even with our own kennels full, when the call came asking for us to step up, we had to say yes,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA CEO. “We are grateful to have multiple locations where we can welcome these pets and give them the promise of a new life, and we know we can count on our community to support this important mission.” 

Austin Pets Alive!, located just miles from some of the hardest hit communities, has been coordinating emergency response efforts and serving as a hub for shelters that have been damaged or forced to evacuate. Through this collaborative effort, pets are being safely relocated to Brandywine Valley SPCA campuses and the Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwold, New Jersey, where they'll soon begin their search for new homes. 

“We are incredibly grateful to work alongside an outstanding network of animal welfare organizations like Brandywine Valley SPCA and Austin Pets Alive!,” said Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society. “The pets affected by the devastating aftermath of the Texas floods represent one part of this tragedy that we can help address by working together collaboratively.” 

The pets from the flight will be made available at BVSPCA’s Campuses, as well as the Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwold, New Jersey as soon as Tuesday, July 21.

The BVSPCA and AAC are asking for the community’s help. “Our everyday work doesn’t stop when we step up to help during a natural disaster,” said Lamb. “We need our community to join us in this time of crisis by adopting and donating.” 

Community members can make an immediate impact by adopting a new pet, whether it is one of the newly arrived Texas shelter pets or a local dog or cat still looking for a home. Every adoption makes room to help another pet in need. 

To encourage more adoptions, Brandywine Valley SPCA, the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area and Animal Adoption Center are offering Pick Your Price adoption fees for all large adult dogs ( 1 year and older, 40 pounds+) and adult cats (6 mos+) all week long, July 21-26, made possible in part by Hill’s Pet Nutrition. Potential adopters can stop by any location or adoption event to pick their price and donate towards the cost of this lifesaving mission. 

Those unable to adopt can still make an impact through a financial donation to help provide transportation, veterinary care, food, and shelter for these animals. Community members can also donate towels, blankets, or items purchased through the BVSPCA Wish List, which can be dropped off at any BVSPCA location.
