Big news to kick off 2025 includes opportunities for kids, volunteers and fosters!  Plus, operations are in full swing in Washington, DC where our team is busy spreading our lifesaving mission and work. Join us to support our mission and help homeless pets in need.

Now open! Brandywine Valley SPCAs expansion into Washington, DC kicked off on January 1. Our new team in the District is already hard at work saving lives by providing animal control and care, recruiting fosters and volunteers, and offering lifesaving resources to the community, including free vaccines for more than 100 family pets.

In the first two weeks, we have welcomed 177 local animals in need, successfully reunited more than 20 pets with their owners, and celebrated nearly 50 adoptions. We have also provided lifesaving surgery to a beloved family dog that the owner couldnt afford, and assisted in rescuing a deer stuck atop the icy Potomac River.

This new partnership with DC Health is a major step in our mission to inspire change in animal welfare nationally and bring compassionate care to tens of thousands of animals who need us every year.

Geared for campers between the ages of 7 and 12 looking to give back to animals in need, Critter Camp teaches campers the building blocks to animal care and compassion, and the various animal career paths, while nurturing their budding passion to become future advocates for animals in need.

Campers will learn from guest speakers, make animal-themed crafts, and of course, meet and interact with our shelter pets. Camp sessions start in June at our Georgetown, New Castle, and West Chester Campuses. Hurry, Early Bird Registration includes a $50 discount per camper, and spots fill up fast!

Special, extended foster needed for Icy! Do you have an empty nest, an extra room, finished basement, or separate space? Are you currently between furever pets? Do you live in Delaware? You may be the person to help this special pup serve a state-mandated quarantine period through April 20th.

Being the only open access shelter in Delaware means we take in a lot of wounded stray dogs and cats. State law requires any dog or cat with a wound that could potentially be from a bite to be quarantined from other animals in the state of Delaware for four months. Our medical team does an amazing job treating the wounds, but that's a long time for those pets to be in a shelter; they deserve to wait out their required quarantine in a loving and peaceful environment while they get ready for a furever home, as they cannot be adopted until the quarantine period is up.

Icy is a 1-year-old playful lab mix, who is currently at our Animal Rescue Center in Georgetown. He came to us with a wound on his front leg, and has received medical care to treat his injury, which has healed. He now needs a place to stay through April 20th.
