10/12/26 UPDATE
Baby Reina is home with us now. The sweet senior spent days at an emergency vet before she was cleared to travel. She has now arrived at our West Chester campus where the next leg of her healing journey begins. She was seen by our caring vet, Dr. Moon, who is treating her eye and ear infections, and is continuing her special refeeding plan to help her gain weight at a safe pace. Since we carried her out of a locked metal crate at the Dogtown Ranch property in Texas, Baby Reina has taught us all a lesson in resilience and love. This girl just wants to snuggle, give kisses, and chow down. She still has a long road ahead, and it is not an easy one, especially for a senior dog, but we will do everything we can to give her the resources she needs to heal and gain her strength. A dedicated and experienced foster is taking her home where we know she will be able to relax and feel safe. Send some love to Baby Reina, we all are.
10/11/26 UPDATE
Joey is safe. We have waited to share an update on Joey, the horse who was on the Dogtown Ranch property when we arrived. We have been working behind the scenes to ensure his wellbeing and safety. Joey has now been transferred to our care, has received a full medical work up by a vet, and is on the way to a new forever home. There, he he will receive the care, space and all the open fields he deserves. We are so grateful to everyone who reached out to us about this young gelding and his future, and we’re happy to share that he will be taken care of by a BVSPCA supporter who has been following our work in Texas and wanted to help. Thanks to everyone who has advocated for the animals of Dogtown Ranch, and those who have been following and supporting our work in Texas. It's thanks to all of you we can ensure a happily ever after for Joey.
10/7/26 UPDATE
Following the arrest of the founder of Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue Rehab, 15 additional dogs housed at an offsite location have been voluntarily surrendered. That means 97 dogs are counting on us.
While shelter partners in the Texas area are welcoming many of the Dogtown dogs into their care, others will be arriving at our local campuses where they will be available for adoption.
Your support is urgently needed for this lifesaving mission. Please consider a donation as BVSPCA staff and the dogs move out of the path of Hurricane Isaias.
10/6/26 ❤ UPDATE ‼
Dogtown Ranch is empty. The silence is deafening. The negotiations have concluded. The animals are safe. The work isn’t over.
It took more than a week of persistence and perseverance by our CEO Adam Lamb and the team in Texas, but 82 dogs have been voluntarily surrendered to us from Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue Rehab in Rockdale, Texas. There are no animals left on the property!
This is a huge moment for these animals, one our team fought to make happen after accessing the property, documenting what we found, and working toward a voluntary surrender that would get every animal out.
Baby Reina, the senior dog we found locked away in a metal crate and severely emaciated, is now out of emergency care and recovering with us. She fought hard to survive and her story became a siren for all the animals. Milam County Sheriff's Office has charged Dogtown Ranch’s founder with animal cruelty as a result of Baby Reina's condition.
Add your voice to ours. Let's help all animals rescued from Dogtown Ranch begin a new life, one where compassion leads them toward a second chance and a loving home. Donate to support their care.
Adopt to Support this Mission. Some of the dogs have arrived at our locations in Pennsylvania and more, who aren’t placed with shelter partners, will follow. We need the space to welcome them. Adopt a survivor, or another dog to make room for a Texas Dog. To help, we are offering waived fees for all dogs 6 months+ at all locations through Sunday, October 11.
10/3/26 ❤ UPDATE ‼
67 dogs are counting on us after we negotiated the voluntary surrender of 15 more dogs from Dogtown Ranch in Rockdale, Texas.
Each precious soul is receiving a medical check-up and the treatment they need. To keep you updated, we're sharing photos and names of each dog surrendered to us. Some are already waiting to find new homes at our campuses in Delaware and Pennsylvania.
Baby Reina continues to receive around-the-clock emergency medical care, and she's showing us she is a fighter.
19 dogs remain at Dogtown Ranch with its founder. Through this process and our negotiation, she has said she is committed to shutting down her nonprofit. Our offer to take in any additional dogs, if needed, still stands. We want to thank the Milam County Sheriff’s Office for their cooperation and teamwork in this massive effort.
Please consider supporting Baby Reina, all 67 Dogtown Ranch dogs, and the thousands of other animals in our care. Your donations make this work possible.

52 dogs are in need of help in Rockdale, Texas. Team BVSPCA is on site answering the call.
The call came following a months-long investigation into conditions at Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab. Our team worked in coordination with the Milam County Sheriff's Office to negotiate the voluntary surrender of 52 dogs from Dogtown Ranch. Now, these precious souls are safe, and we're bringing them the care, compassion, and second chances they deserve.
But we can't do this alone. We're asking you to help us meet their needs. Every act of kindness brings these dogs one step closer to healing, fostering hope, and ultimately finding their path home.
A team of more than a dozen BVSPCA staff members is on the ground in Texas, led by CEO Adam Lamb and joined by Aimee Sadler, founder of Dogs Playing for Life, now affiliated with BVSPCA. Together, we’re working around the clock to assess every dog, provide medical care and begin preparing them for the journey ahead.
The team worked tirelessly over two days to give each of the 52 dogs medical check-ups before transporting them to a temporary shelter. But getting these dogs to safety is only the beginning. Right now, one dog is fighting for her life and receiving critical emergency care.
As a leader in the no-kill movement, BVSPCA brings our veterinary expertise, adoption resources, shelter partnerships and dedicated team needed to help animals in crisis, wherever they may be.
Today, your gift can help start their next chapter.
Your donation will provide medical exams and treatments they need, along with transportation, food, shelter and daily care, while also supporting the hundreds of other animals already counting on us.
With your help, these 52 dogs can finally experience a safe place to heal, a chance to be loved, and a path home.
