Saved From Suffering, These Survivors Need Your Help

ORIGINAL POST FROM 8/20/24:

20 dogs were found suffering from severe neglect, riddled with mites and mange, and needing serious medical attention.

Last week, Delaware Animal Services Officers from the Office of Animal Welfare responded to a dire situation in a Sussex County home. The timing of last week’s rescue was critical, as the health of some of these survivors was rapidly deteriorating, three of which could not be saved.

Thankfully, because of supporters like you, we are able to offer a safe haven for the rest of these poor souls as they heal from a life of abuse and neglect. Our dedicated team at the Animal Rescue Center has been working around the clock to assess their needs and begin their rehabilitation plans.

Among the survivors are some in need of specialized surgeries and four nearly unrecognizable Labrador Retrievers suffering from severe sarcoptic mange, a highly contagious and extremely irritating parasitic infection of the skin caused by burrowing mites. All of them will need extended and specialized medical care.

Candy and her newborn puppies, who were likely born within days of their rescue, will spend time with a foster who can give them the care they need until they can all be ready for a new life and family.

Caring for this number of animals, on top of our everyday work as Delaware’s only open-access shelter, involves a significant investment of resources - medical treatment, surgeries, isolation, and specialized cleaning protocols, vaccinations, spay/neuter, neonatal care, fostering, grooming, evaluation, and more.

Your support is the lifeline that enables us to be the symbol of hope for these survivors, deserving of a better life. Please join this rescue and rally around them by donating to support this critical work. Together, we can turn despair into hope.
