WEST CHESTER, PA (March 21, 2017) – The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) will be offering spay/neuter surgeries to residents of Chester County, Delaware County, and New Castle County for just a $20 co-pay during the month of March. The “Lucky Charms” campaign is the first of three “blitz” campaigns supported by a generous grant from PetSmart Charities, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America.
PetSmart Charities awarded the BVSPCA a $76,000 grant to run a series of spay/neuter blitz campaigns during 2017. These month-long campaigns are designed to reduce the number of homeless pets by preventing the birth of unwanted litters. The BVSPCA campaigns aim to reach at least 1400 family pets by the end of 2017.
The BVSPCA performed more than 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries in 2016 through its Animal Health Centers in Malvern, PA, and New Castle, DE. “Our Animal Health Centers specialize in high quality, low-cost surgery,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA Chief Executive Officer. “Having the support of PetSmart Charities to offer these blitz campaigns will allow us to reach even more family pets in our community so fewer unwanted kittens and puppies end up in shelters.”
“The Brandywine Valley SPCA had made great strides to reduce the number of unplanned litters throughout the region with their local spay and neuter campaigns,” said Sima Thakkar, regional relationship manager at PetSmart Charities. “Through their continued efforts and dedication, PetSmart Charities hopes to reduce pet shelter intake and, ultimately, end pet homelessness I the community.”
With the help of animal welfare partners, including the BVSPCA, PetSmart Charities has funded more than 1.4 million spay and neuter surgeries in the U.S. since 2009.
The March Lucky Charms campaign includes cats and dogs, both male and female. Clients need to schedule their appointment by March 31, 2017, by calling one of the BVSPCA Animal Health Centers:

Founded in 1929, the Brandywine Valley SPCA is the first open admission shelter in Pennsylvania to achieve No Kill status and serves as the only open admission shelter in both Chester and Delaware Counties. In 2015, the BVSPCA opened its first Animal Health Center in Malvern, Pennsylvania, making veterinary care more accessible to local residents. In 2016, the BVSPCA took on a 3-year contract with the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare to provide state-wide animal services, and expanded its reach further into the tri-state area by opening both a second shelter and a second Animal Health Center in New Castle County, Delaware. Shortly after, a PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center was opened in Dover, Delaware. Its mission is to put the “human” back in humane animal treatment and to advocate on their behalf. Each year, the BVSPCA cares for more than 9,000 stray, owner-surrendered, wayward owned, and abused and neglected animals. For more information, please visit www.bvspca.org.
