Once again, thanks to your support, our organization set new records in saving the lives of homeless pets and supporting pet families in our communities. In 2025, we increased our core work in Pennsylvania and Delaware, opening new adoption locations in each state. We also expanded our lifesaving reach into the nation’s capital, partnering with DC Health to take over animal care and control services for the District, and open the District’s brand new, state-of-the-art shelter and animal health center.
Across our entire footprint, spanning Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and now Washington, D.C., we increased the number of animals in our care by 33% compared to 2024, with an average of 75 animals arriving daily, more than half of whom came to us as strays. Despite the challenges that come with serving as one of the only open-access shelters in our Pennsylvania regions, as well as the only open-access organization for the entire state of Delaware, and Washington, D.C., we maintained our no-kill status, saving lives and bringing joy to countless homes.
Local pets and pet families in need remain a top priority, and thanks to your help, we are able to provide vital health, wellness, and safety net services. This offers much-needed assistance to families in need, helps keep pets in their loving homes, and decreases the number of unplanned litters.
Since our beginning as a county shelter in West Chester, we have grown into the largest animal welfare organization in the region.
We first expanded to Delaware, helping to make it the first no-kill state in the country. In 2024, we brought our no-kill movement to Harrisburg through an affiliation and now full merger with the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area. We also expanded into New Jersey, upgrading and operating the Animal Adoption Center.
Then, in 2025, we embarked on the massive task of assuming animal control and care services for Washington, D.C. Through it all, we continue to elevate lifesaving and bring progressive programs and resources into new communities to support pets and their people.
We cannot do this work alone. It takes a true community effort to make all of this possible. The impact in 2025, and all that’s ahead in 2026 happens thanks to you - our generous donors, sponsors, our kind community, and our dedicated staff and volunteers. You play an important role and share in every life we save. Thank you.
