1,134 homeless pets find families at BVSPCA MEGA adoption event

Inspiring. Incredible. Amazing. The words just aren’t enough. This past weekend more than 7000 people came out to support deserving pets in need of a second chance at a forever family. And 1134 pets went home as a result.

Each animal has its own backstory, some we know and some we’re probably relieved they can’t tell us. What we do know is all of those changed forever when they met their forever families at the Mega Adoption Event.

Whitaker arrived early this year through the BVSPCA Second Chance program, which helps animals at risk in other shelters. Whitaker was on the shelter’s urgent list, and he was almost completely bald from a non-contagious skin condition. Whitaker didn’t let any of that get him down. He embraced every day with joy, and our volunteers and staff immediately fell in love with him. Then he met his forever family on Saturday, and our dreams for Whitaker came true. Now Meatball, he enjoys running in his yard with his dog-sister Zivs and going to the park his people, who love him to bits.

Layla arrived to our New Castle shelter as a local stray. Hard to believe no one came to claim this sweet senior. Thanks to the Mega adoption event, a kind senior person chose Layla as her companion to share their golden years. The adopter’s daughter updated us:
“Today my mom brought home a new companion! Layla is a 12 year old Cocker Spaniel mix that has my mama’s heart. Thank you Brandywine Valley SPCA for bringing two ‘seasoned’ ladies together!”

Ivy came to us from a local shelter overcrowded with adult cats. Summertime’s kittens make it so difficult for adults to stand out, but this father/daughter pair specifically came to the event to save an adult to live as the sparkle in this gentleman’s eye. It was truly a special Father’s Day for this family, and especially Ivy.

About the Brandywine Valley SPCA

Founded in 1929, the Brandywine Valley SPCA is the first open admission shelter in Pennsylvania to achieve No Kill status and serves as the only open admission shelter in both Chester and Delaware Counties.
