100 Reasons Why We Need You

UPDATE October 10, 2025

It’s been a few weeks since nearly 100 animals came into our care from heartbreaking conditions. Many were scared, others were in pain from untreated wounds, and suffering from severe neglect. Staff, volunteers & the community came together across all our campuses — evaluating, treating, and comforting each survivor who came through our doors.

Then you showed up. Those first critical days were filled not with despair, but with hope because your donations helped provide critical care and emergency medical treatment to these sweet souls who needed you. Many of you also stepped up to foster or adopt to help open kennels and resources for our team to focus on these survivors.

Now, many of these survivors are ready for their next chapter. Find them available for adoption at the Animal Rescue Center located at 19022 Shingle Point Road in Georgetown, DE. This group of dogs and cats are  waiting to meet the families who will give them the love they deserve. All adoptions are on a first-come basis, in person. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, there’s never been a better time. Below are some of the faces you helped heal.

But our work isn’t done yet. Some animals are still in treatment, recovering from infections or injuries, and continue to need specialized care and evaluation. Your ongoing support ensures they, too, can move from rescue to a forever home.

We can’t do this work without your support. Please consider donating today to help us finish the work — and give every one of these animals the second chance they’ve earned.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA needs your help. We have taken in nearly 100 animals at once from a small home in New Castle County. The home was filled with animals living in filthy and cramped conditions. Our team assisted officers from the Office of Animal Welfare’s (OAW) Delaware Animal Services as they seized dogs, cats, kittens and other small animals from the property and moved them to our Animal Rescue Center (ARC) in Georgetown. Each is being evaluated and already, our team is treating some of the animals for open wounds, skin conditions, eye and ear infections, and is evaluating them for other issues.

As Delaware’s only open-access shelter, taking in stray animals and all victims of cruelty and neglect, our shelters were already near or at capacity, and we’re asking for the community to step up and help during this emergency rescue mission. Here are three ways to help:

We need emergency fosters to welcome animals into their home for at least two weeks. Whether you are able to take a dog or cat from this specific case, or from any of our locations, it helps open space for us to care for this large intake. Please fill out our emergency foster form to get started.

Placing a dog or cat into a permanent home is the best way to help make space for the newly arriving dogs and cats. We are waiving adoption fees for all adult dogs 1yr+ and 30lbs+ and adult cats 6mos+ through October 5. We’re grateful to offer these waived fees in memory of a very special supporter Penny Carlisle. Now is a great time to adopt to help make space for these nearly 100 survivors.

Please make a donation to help us meet the significant cost of caring for nearly 100 animals brought into our care at once. Each of these survivors needs to be evaluated, receive vaccinations, surgeries and round-the-clock care by our dedicated staff and volunteers. Your support helps us provide this critical and immediate care.
