Sweetness

Alone, starving, and too weak to stand, Sweetness was near death when a group of kids found him lying on the ground behind their apartment building in Southeast Washington, DC.

The kids had recently lost their family dog and wanted to help, so they carried Sweetness to their home. When their mother arrived home from work, she quickly recognized how serious Sweetness' condition was and called us for help.

Our responding Animal Control Officer rushed Sweetness to the emergency vet for urgent medical care, where it was determined just how dire his case was. Sweetness is emaciated, dehydrated, and suffering from severe and painful sores on both of his front legs. It's not clear how long he had been on his own.

Once Sweetness was stabilized, he came to the BVSPCA to continue his road to recovery. He was fostered by a dedicated staff member, who was able to provide him with continued medical care and a loving home to rest while he healed.

After nearly two months in foster, the sores on Sweetness’ legs healed, and he gained over 20 pounds! Watching him grow stronger and stronger every day, our staff member and her family realized that Sweetness wasn't just a temporary guest, he was family. Today, Sweetness is healthy, happy, and officially adopted! Proof that sometimes the best foster fails are actually the biggest wins!

Your donations also make it possible for us to always answer the call when animals like Sweetness need our help.
