On a chilly afternoon in mid-March, a man heard what he thought was whimpering coming from behind a dumpster in a back alley near railroad tracks. When he went to investigate, he looked under a cardboard box and found a small black dog that was unable to move. The dog was soaking wet, shivering cold, and appeared to be injured.
The good Samaritan brought the dog to the Chester County SPCA after observing that he was in a lot of pain. Upon thorough examination, our medical team discovered that the injuries were more severe than they had could have thought. The dog, named “Flash” by our staff members, had three broken legs. Both of his back legs and his left front leg were all broken, as was his tail: a combination of injuries that left him crippled and unable to move.
Flash underwent surgery and pins were placed in his legs to help the bones heal properly. We placed him with a foster family to provide the comforts of a home while he recovered from his injuries. Thanks to the Chester County SPCA’s medical team, Flash is now walking and is ready for adoption today! The cost of caring for Flash – including repairing his various fractures, neuter surgery, vaccinations, and foster care – was more than $2,000.
We see animals like Flash come through our doors each and every day and we need your support to help care for them. Every donation we receive makes a huge difference in the lives of those animals who need us most and allows us to give them the second chance they deserve.
